Conditions of Participation – NaturVision Film Competition
1. The competition is open to new or established film and television production companies, as well as independent filmmakers, from anywhere in the world. To qualify, the entries – documentary productions – must focus on the subjects of nature/wildlife/people/environment/sustainability, for example presenting natural regions, animal behaviors and their natural habitat, the relationship between humans and their environment, or current environmental issues.
2. Any film can be entered in various categories, which are listed on the application form. The jury judges only the films in the respective categories. The entry fee for the first category is € 40, for each additional category € 20.
3. The following applies to pupils and students: if a film is submitted exclusively in the category “NaturVision Newcomers and Amateurs Award”, no entry fee will be charged. Written proof of this status must be enclosed.
4. The entry form must be completed, signed and submitted by the closing date along with the following enclosures:
• A blu-ray disc for preview screening (if not available, a DVD)
• A 50-80-word synopsis of the film (as the basis for the film’s description in the NaturVision programme) in English and German
• A complete and detailed list of credits
• A brief biography and filmography of the director(s)
• A minimum of three good stills from the production (300 dpi resolution, 8 cm wide)
• For films which are not annotated in English or German, a text or dialogue list in English or German
• Press clippings and a press kit, where applicable
• Bank transfer for the amount of the application fee due.
• If applicable, proof of enrollment at a school or university
Please send the enclosures, e.g. photos, texts, in digital form (CD, DVD). None of the submissions will be returned. Please do not send film copies, master tapes or other originals. All enclosures are mandatory and must be included for an entry to be complete. All submissions must be sent prepaid; C.O.D. shipments will not be accepted. The Festival management will not assume responsibility for, nor will it accept shipments which incur expenses for shipping, customs duties, taxes or other charges.
5. Entrants automatically grant permission for reasonable use or copy of the stills for the purposes of promoting the competition and/or Festival, also on the Internet.
6. Entrants automatically consent to their productions being made available for viewing in the Video Library. The preview blue-ray (DVD) will remain in the Video Library.
7. Competition entrants automatically consent to the clipping of up to three minutes of each submitted production for reasonable use free of charge by radio and TV media for the purposes of promoting the competition and/or NaturVision, including on the Internet.
8. The copies of all films invited to participate are insured to the value of their materials while in the custody of the Festival. The custody period extends from the time the films are registered as received by the Festival until they are surrendered to the air freight company, forwarding agency, post office or Deutsche Bahn to be returned. The copies must have been received by the Festival on time, otherwise the liability of the Festival is limited because a proper receiving inspection of the copies cannot be guaranteed.
9. The transport costs to Neuschönau are paid by the sender. The costs of the one-off return freight are paid by the Festival. Submissions from abroad must be marked as follows: “Temporary use. For cultural use only. Consignment has no commercial value.” For submissions from non-EU countries, a proforma invoice up to the value of € 25 must be included. You are kindly requested to obtain the necessary re-import documents from the customs office before submitting your film.
10. Part of the Festival are the Bavarian Forest Film Days as well as the Film Festival in Vimperk (Czech Republic), held later, at which the winners of the NaturVision competition as well as a selection of films from the program will be shown. By completing the application, entrants automatically consent to their submitted film being screened during these events.
11. In collaboration with various institutions, the Festival management organizes “Best Of NaturVision” events, at which above all the winners of the competition as well as outstanding films from the programme are shown. The aim of these events is to promote the NaturVision Festival and the genre of nature, wildlife and environmental films per se. Both the events and the Festival are non-commercial. By completing the registration, submitters consent to their submitted film being shown at these events free of charge.
12. Various prizes are awarded at the “NaturVision Competition” by a jury of experts. The decisions of the jury are final.
13. The Festival management appoints the members of the expert jury.
14. The mutual agreement to participate in the Festival shall be deemed as acknowledgement of the above regulations. The Festival management has the final decision on any exceptions and cases not specified in this document. In case of doubt, the German version of these regulations is binding.
15. The exclusive place of jurisdiction is Freyung.
